Common questions about Bromo.
Is Bromo a Grindr alternative?
+
Yes. Bromo is built as the fairly-priced, AI-moderated alternative to Grindr. Bromo Pro at €9.99/mo is roughly half the cost of Grindr XTRA ($19.99/mo) and one-fifth the cost of Grindr Unlimited ($49.99/mo). Bromo adds real-world group hangouts (Chills) and stealth mode for hostile regions — neither of which Grindr offers in the same form.
Is Bromo free?
+
Yes. Core dating features — browsing the grid, tapping, matching, messaging verified profiles, and joining Chills — work without Bromo Pro. Bromo Pro is a subscription tier that adds unlimited searches, unlimited Chill creation, unlimited chat media, premium filters, and private albums. The free tier is intentionally usable, not a teaser.
How much does Bromo Pro cost?
+
Bromo Pro is €4.99 weekly, €9.99 monthly, or €49.99 yearly (which works out to €4.16/month). There's also a €1.99 day pass for 24 hours of Pro features. See the full pricing breakdown and competitor comparison at bromo-app.com/pricing.
Is Bromo safe? How does Bromo block bots and catfish?
+
Every uploaded photo runs through automated AI moderation before going live. Accounts can't message anyone without a photo (the "No Pic No Chat" gate). Selfie verification gives users a badge proving they're the person in their photos. Server-side, message-sending is blocked for accounts that haven't completed onboarding — this closes the API-direct bot vector entirely.
What are Chills?
+
Chills are user-hosted real-world group hangouts — bar nights, beach days, gym sessions, brunches. Any user can create one, set the location and time, and approve who joins. Chills are unique to Bromo; no major gay dating app offers user-hosted group events like this. They're free to host and join.
What is stealth mode?
+
Stealth mode hides your profile photo from other users on the grid. A neutral Bromo placeholder shows instead. It's designed for users in regions where being seen on a gay dating app could carry legal, professional, or physical risk — including travel to countries where homosexuality is criminalised. Stealth mode is free, server-side enforced, and toggles with a single switch in Settings.
Where is Bromo available?
+
Bromo is available on the iOS App Store globally. Android is coming soon. The primary launch market is the Netherlands, but the app is available worldwide on iOS with 16 languages supported at launch: Dutch, English, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, Turkish, Russian, Indonesian.
Who built Bromo?
+
Bromo is independently built and operated from Amsterdam, Netherlands. It's not part of Match Group, Grindr LLC, or any major dating-app conglomerate. The team is small and focused on a single product — no virtual gifts, no live streaming, no parent-network monetisation funnel.
Does Bromo have ads?
+
No. Bromo Pro is the only monetisation model. The free tier doesn't have video ads, banner ads, or paywall-disguised promotions. If you stay on the free tier indefinitely, you get a free product — not a worse one.
Is Bromo only for gay men?
+
Bromo is built for men attracted to men — gay, bi, queer, trans, and curious. Users select their identity and who they're interested in during onboarding. The grid only shows men compatible with your stated preferences. Real users never see profiles from other audiences.
How does Bromo compare to Scruff, Blued, PlanetRomeo and Sniffies?
+
Bromo's Pro tier is cheaper than Scruff Pro ($19.99/mo) and similar to PlanetRomeo PLUS (€8.99/mo). Compared to Blued, Bromo doesn't have live-streaming or virtual-gift monetisation. Compared to Sniffies, Bromo requires accounts with photos and verification rather than anonymous map cruising. See dedicated comparison pages at bromo-app.com/alternatives/grindr, /scruff, /blued, /planetromeo, /sniffies.
Can I delete my Bromo account?
+
Yes. Account deletion is available in Settings → Account → Delete Account. Deletion removes your profile, photos, chats, and Chill RSVPs. The deletion is processed within 30 days as required by GDPR; you receive a confirmation email when complete.
